2021 Kite Festival

2021 Kite Festival

Stephen Wade Auto Center is a proud sponsor of the Washington County School District and the Kite Festival.  We believe every child should have the opportunity to learn to read and write.  “We love the Dixie Power Kite Festival and the importance the festival places on encouraging reading in our schools,” says Jamie Bahlmann, public relations director for Stephen Wade Auto Center.

Hundreds of Washington County children had reading calendars in their hands ready to redeem them for either a book, a kite, or a voucher to use at the 22nd Annual Dixie Power Kite Festival.

Dixie Power hosted the event on Saturday, April 17th for the community to come together to enjoy food, games, kite flying, and much more.  The purpose of the Kite Festival is to encourage students to read and provide an incentive to school children in grades K-5.  The Washington County School District Foundation along with Dixie Power hosts the annual Kite Festival every year to encourage literacy in our community.

To promote the Kite Festival, every child in the Washington County School District receives a free Kite Festival calendar that will help them track their reading minutes for three months.  If the student fills in their reading calendar with the number of minutes read, they can redeem their calendar for a free kite, book, or festival voucher.  At the Kite Festival, there were over 80 booths with food vendors, craft vendors, and an opportunity for children to purchase books for $1 each.  The Kite Festival is a great place to offer affordable books to young readers to begin or continue their reading journey.

This past event, children and parents enjoyed the free games, bounce houses, carnival food, kite flying, and entertainment.  An entertainment stage was set up in the middle of Dixie State University’s beautiful encampment mall to showcase local performing groups.  There was a variety of dance groups, singing groups, and, of course, extra fun with the emcees from Canyon Media Radio GroupFestival Sounds provided all of the sound equipment which provided a fantastic atmosphere for the performers.  There were all different age groups of performers to share their unique talents with the audience.

The weather was beautiful with some overcast clouds that provided just enough wind for children to enjoy flying kites.
